He was just questioning the legitimacy of that guy, no need to take offense and assume he was bashing on you. The guy has been a member here for 2 months and his only post in 2 months is about h+ rims... its just not "regular".

anyways, i hope there is some resolution, or a new product (the heavier ones?) is developed, because i really like the design. never have i seen a rim get destroyed like that...

Culver and Walnut in Irvine at Midnight

December 31, 2008 by joeeee

I was going down walnut and stopped at a red light. You were going towards UCI on Culver at the stop light. You saw me but i couldn't see you because my glasses are crap (i usually wear contacts) and I wasn't focusing because it was so damn cold. You yelled nice bike and i realized you were riding a fixed gear. It was too dark to see, but you had white grips and a dark blue frame?

Re: tires???

December 9, 2008 by joeeee

When i asked around, soma everwears/ continental gatorskins always came up to be good skidding tires. Right now i've been rocking a gatorskin and its really durable. It's been about a month and i ride 12 ish miles everyday on average. Overall i think if you want your tires to last, don't skid so often or hard...

DJ's everwears last him a month because he skids like a madman at every stop and turn... though i would say the average for these tires come up to even a year.

It all depends on the rider and preference, but i think everwears and gatorskins should be fine

Re: i just got hit and need some advice....

You should have gotten the police involved, then she would be obliged to pay for your bike/injuries. If it was indeed her fault, she should be responsible for her actions. Hopefully you have her information...

Wrist strain is pretty common, i've had some that was just a "strain" for a couple of weeks and went away. But then again, i have also had some wrist/knee problems before where i ended up going to the doctor.. and i ended up having a small fracture. Usually small fractures don't matter as much, but the safest bet is to see a doctor so you don't end up with long term problems.

Knowing your situation (getting hit by a car), i am going to assume you have a fracture, so i would definitely suggest seeing a doctor... since a fracture can lead to longterm discomfort.

good luck!

this the results of skidding on these wheels.

No wheel should ever do this, especially if its aluminum unless a crash occured...

wow i was actually considering to get me a set... scratch that

Re: What's the best way to get in shape for longer rides?

November 21, 2008 by joeeee

I would say go on group rides (start w/ a slower ride). Being in the group makes you push yourself. Im not willing to change my diet so i havent got much more fit but it did make me a faster rider. Also, ride your bike whenever you can & ride fast wherever you go. If you gotta go to the bank, take your bike; etc.

-frankdatank

+1 to this. 90% of the time I ride, I commute. From experience, when I ride by myself, I don't push myself nearly as hard as I would when i ride with a group. So going to more rides is definitely a plus, you naturally don't want to fall behind and always push yourself to keep up.

As for eating, I don't think you have to change your habits too much... unless your eating pure junk. Riding casually (meaning not racing), in my opinion does not require a strict diet...

Also what is your gear ratio? If you find yourself running out of breath easily, then your gear ratio is probably too low, if your muscles are cramping, then its probably too high.

Overall i think the best thing you can do is ride more, that way your legs get use to it, and your endurance overall will be better.

good luck!

dude seriously, that guy had something up his ass, he just honked at us for no reason when he pulled up the parking lot... and we made room for him too. what a douche.

cars in irvine dont share the road :(

hmm.. one time i was biking down culver and this guy totally cut me off on a right turn into the bike lane... so i smacked the front of his car when i passed him and he followed me for like 5 blocks nonstop honking :D

November 11, 2008 by joeeee

most of the time i ride to commute, sometimes i go ride down jamboree and go on this trail near the 261 i think, its really nice. other than that i ride with UCI on wednesday nights. see ya dudes around!

Re: What gearing do you rock?

November 9, 2008 by joeeee

my bike came default 48/16 :/. it was a good all around ratio, but didnt like the fact that there was only 1 skid patch. i just changed my cog today to at 17t.

so now im at 48/17, its actually alot easier to pedal than 48/16-- definitely a good all around ratio with a lot of skid patches! when my legs get stronger im gonna keep going up to like 50+/17

hi

November 9, 2008 by joeeee

hey oc fixed,
i just started riding a week ago when i got my bike for commuting and saving gas etc. im totally new to fixies everything so im just getting adjusted into FG culture haha.

My bike was bought complete, a Mercier TT Pro, it was pretty cheap, and i had no knowledge of any bike parts or anything, so i just bought it for simplicity. gotta start somewhere right?

so yeah, i went for a ride with the irvine ridazz last week and it was bomb! definitely going to go out every week to learn some new tricks.

im totally obsessed with riding my bike... i ride it everywhere, and now im getting the bike upgrading disease...lol
