What made you decide to get a fixed gear bike? Answer seriously and honestly
scene girls. i noticed all the dudes with fixies were getting them, so i had to try it out.....it was a fail.
it was simple to maintain, they look sleek and theyre just comfortable to ride. another thing was the skid. skids always look sweet, ahaha.
cuz shit is metal! DUhr
I don't ride a bike to save the enviornment, get/stay healthy, make friends or make any type of intended statement about the cycling scene. All of those things are just byproducts that I accept, understand and appreciate. I'm a bike commuter, I ride a bike to get from one place to another. I learned to love riding a fixed gear in the street after about 1000 miles.
I went from a riding a BMX bike (don't ask I suck, total poser), to a cheap MTB, to riding an old road bike, to a fixed gear/single speed just because I wanted to try out different types of bikes. And I still do
when i was messing with my single speed and jb welded that shit up
I wanted to be cool. I emptied my savings and bought a fixed gear, a messenger bag, and a U-lock. Got a tattoo of a bike too.
I wanted to be like everyone else, It worked
2 years ago I walked into Orange Cycle and Al was working there. His straight forward opposition to Fixed gears and the people that ride them is was made me first look into it (what was he so mad about?) I did some research and wanted to try it out this crazy shit for myself. A week later he helped me build my first Fixed gear and i've been riding ever since.
"it's not the bikes that i hate it's the kids that they seem to attract"
I rode BMX and I saw people riding fixed gear bikes around a lot, and I didnt have a car so it seemed like a smart way of transportation. I have been around BMX since i was 2 with all my cousins and friends so I always loved riding my bike. Plus all my friends who rode BMX got into it.
I hopped on my first bike when I was 4 years old, I've always been so into cycling and I'm not goanna lie my preference or taste in bikes does tend to vary, but at the same time fixed gear cycling just seems to be the most intense form of bike riding. Just think about it, a bike that doesn't stop peddling with (with no brakes if you're a crazy guy). It's insane. I have always been into older bikes, especially bikes in the 60's and 70's, and the first time I ever saw a fixed gear it was a conversion. It was an older Fuji, and the fact that I couldn't stop peddling blew my mind, like nothing I had ever experienced before. I was hooked since then. This was around the time I was growing up in a rough spot in Garden Grove so none of my friend's had the money to buy deep vs and aerospokes and expensive track bikes, everyone had conversions, therefore that's what my initial thought of what any fixed gear was. I, personally, got into fixed gears about 3-4 years ago because I thought they were cool, but I ride now for transportation mainly, and also fitness. Riding fixed gears keeps me young and youthful. Tricks aren't really my thing, and if anyone wants to try and say "Well times are changing, you have to learn!" you can suck my balls because you're a piece of shit. Long story short, I ride to ride fast and I ride so I don't become a lazy self-loathing bastard.
Friend of mine that didn't ride at the time told me about them... Then I saw some critical mass videos on youtube and saw parts of Mash. Funny how everything that attracted to me to riding a Fixed Gear bike became everything I hate.
One of the things that lead me to get into fixed gear bikes was the looks. I thought track bikes looked mean/fast. Also, being fairly low maintenance and simple was great because I was looking for a bike to commute around town in.
