using sand paper or using a palm sander
than use clear spray paint
could you just use aircraft stripper?
and i hear even with clearcoat it still rusts
u can use paint stripper then you can clear coat the frame
Aircraft stripper works great and don't worry about rust.

cages or straps? i was also think of some cheap doubles for like 25$ saw some on google shopping
Get metal cages first
is there gonna be any problems with riding with a 1/8 chainring with a 3/32 cog with a 1/8 chain?

Did you honestly not know where to post this question?
There shouldn't be any problem.

what kind of difference (in feeling) is there between those single gates vs the double gates for cages? is one recomended for certain use vs another?
Doubles just keep your feet in the cages more effectively and spreads the pressure on the top of your foot. Some people find that singles just dig into their feet.
Downside is some people have a harder time getting their feet out, which could be a problem in critical moment.
I would suggest trying both out and seeing which works best for you. I personally prefer clipless shoes and pedals, but those have their own pros and cons.
