General Education: Q & A
So apparently I have to post this here considering it got locked on the post I put up... sooooooo.....
I bought this frame with some older wheels and an all around suicidejob done on it (new to the whole thing, how was I to know.) Afterstripping the rear cog (which I was told by three different bike shopsthat they had never seen that before) and discovering that my seatpostwas being held in the tubing with shims made of beer cans, i decided toplay take apart mechanic. I have now stripped it down and did arebuild, but have no idea what kind of frame I have. Luckily the serialnumber was still legible after I had it sand blasted if I can find alegit website that can tell me what it is. But until then, maybesomeone can tell me just off of sight alone. I loaded up a pic of thebike and then the rear drop outs cuz I know that can help maybeidentify what it used to be. I'm thinking either a Univega or Centurion from the 80's.
Thanks a bundle.

The frame could be anything. I would trying searching any serial number that's similar to the number you have. Change a number or a letter in the sequence, see what that brings up.
thanks dude.
Question:
Can I buy a velocity rim from ebay and use the spokes & hub from my weinmann wheel with it?

You might need to get new spokes, the distance between your current rim and hub and a new rim and current hub may differ.
The hub should be fine.
Just make sure you buy a hoop from ebay w/ the same number of holes.
32 hole rim / 32 hole hub / 32 spokes <getIT?
Hey thanx for the quick response.. I'm looking for velocity rims, or another comparable style in purple, teal or pink.. any suggestions for local OC shops or people that may have such things?

What kind of hanger should I use to hang my bike up on my wall?

i got these bitches all over my garage
i just wanted to share a couple of the ways ive seen bikes locked up at fullerton college. last week i saw a three wheeler (like one of those old lady bikes) with a u-lock locking only three spokes of one of the rear wheels to a post. all you wouldve had to do would be to snip the spokes and away you go. the most recent was a beach cruiser locked to a bus bench. the lock was around the seat post. just slip the cable over the seat. in the future im gonna try to get pics and maybe start a thread about this. or i suppose it could just go in the fail thread...
whats thereal reason for 650's? i talk to much shit on them, but only because kids use them to trick and they dont even need to.
650c was used for smaller riders, that is until bike designers figured out how to make 700s fit on smaller frames. It was also used in time trial and triathlons. They have a smaller contact patch with the ground so there is less friction. A smaller diameter wheel also has better acceleration, which would beneficial in a triathlon or time trial. But the disadvantages far out weigh any benefits. One reason they are not as popular as before is that they don't hold their momentum like a 700c. The biggest reason is that you have to pedal more with a 650c to cover the same distance as a 700c.
ok. cool, i always wondered why some of the older tt bikes looked like they had smaller wheels. thank you.
see kids, listen to this man. he knows.

I know it's a Raleigh frame and i'm not into that but it will give me something to ride until I have enough money to buy a Brooklyn frame
I don't know much when it comes to parts/frames so if you could help me out and give some serious input that would mean a lot!
Thanks
